OpenBiome is a pioneering nonprofit that accelerates bold discoveries in microbiome science—ethically and equitably—to improve health worldwide.

For physicians, we provide investigational fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) preparations to treat recurrent C. difficile infections. To date we have distributed more than 68,000 investigational FMT treatments to a network of over 1,300 healthcare facilities nationwide.

For researchers we provide bacterial isolates and stool samples for use in non-clinical research including functional experiments in humanized animal models and development of biomarker screening methods.

Bacterial Isolates: The Global Microbiome Conservancy Program at OpenBiome has prepared Starter Kits designed to enable a more comprehensive exploration of the human microbiome. Kits contain bacterial isolates derived from stool samples donated by diverse, highly underrepresented communities around the world and reflect both rural and urban lifestyles and diets.

GMbC Starter kits are prepared by the Global Microbiome Conservancy (GMbC) program at OpenBiome as part of our nonprofit mission to advance understanding of the human microbiome and promote inclusive science. Each kit contains 48 anaerobic bacterial seeds stocks derived from stool samples donated by diverse, highly underrepresented communities around the world that reflect both rural and urban lifestyles and diets. 

Stool Samples (FMP-BIO): Fecal microbiota preparation biospecimens (FMP-BIO) are small-format samples of stool derived from rigorously-screened, Boston-based stool donors. Donors have provided stool used to manufacture investigational FMT preparations for the treatment of recurrent C. difficile infections. FMP-BIO are ideal for use in humanized animal models and development of biomarker screening methods.
